How to Reserve a Campsite at Brazos Bend State Park
Brazos Bend is one of the closest state parks to Houston, and TPWD says it often reaches capacity. Reserving early is the difference between a shaded loop site and a long drive home. This walkthrough covers the Texas State Parks reservation system as it applies to Brazos Bend State Park camping in 2026.
Step by step: booking a Brazos Bend campsite
- Choose your site type. Decide between a 50-amp site (Burr Oak), a 30-amp site (Red Buckeye), a $12 walk-in primitive site, a screened shelter or the single cabin. Our campsite types and fees guide compares them.
- Count back five months. Most Texas state park campsites and lodging can be reserved up to five months ahead, and the window opens at 8 a.m. For a popular spring weekend, be online when it opens.
- Go to the reservation website. Search for Brazos Bend State Park on texasstateparks.reserveamerica.com. Online booking runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
- Pick an exact site. Reservations for most sites are site-specific. Check the site details for driveway length and type before you choose.
- Add your party and pass. Enter the number of people so entrance fees calculate correctly. Pass benefits apply when you book, as long as the pass is valid on your arrival date.
- Pay and save the confirmation. Your confirmation email includes the cancellation policy. Keep a copy on paper or saved offline.
Booking by phone and group bookings
The TPWD Customer Service Center at (512) 389-8900 takes reservations Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and is closed on major holidays. Group facilities, most ADA sites and some other sites must be reserved by phone. Phone bookings can be paid by card, or you can send payment within five business days.
Online you can reserve up to five sites for the same park and dates. Anything larger, along with the group hall, pavilions and amphitheater, goes through the group desk at (512) 389-8920.
Arrival, check-in and late arrival
| Facility | Check-in | Check-out |
|---|---|---|
| Campsites and screened shelters | 2 p.m. | Noon |
| Cabin and other overnight sites | 3 p.m. | 11 a.m. |
TPWD says park offices are usually open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., though hours vary by park. If you arrive after the office closes, check in at the office before noon the next day. The no-show rule is strict: if you have not checked in by noon the day after your scheduled arrival, the rest of the reservation is canceled, entrance fees are refunded, and all other fees are forfeited. Running late? Call the park at (979) 553-5101 or the Customer Service Center before that deadline. Remember that park gates close and lock at 10 p.m.
Changes, cancellations and no-shows
| When you cancel or change | Campsite or screened shelter | Cabin |
|---|---|---|
| Within 24 hours of booking | No penalty* | No penalty* |
| 5 or more days before arrival | $10 (or amount paid, if less) | $25 (or amount paid, if less) |
| Fewer than 5 days before arrival | $10 per night, up to $50 | $25 per night, up to $75 |
| No-show | Lose all but entrance fees | Lose all but entrance fees |
*Except bookings that extend beyond the five-month window, which TPWD says cannot be changed for 18 days. Same-day reservations are nonrefundable. Extending a stay or upgrading carries no penalty, and fees in effect when you booked apply unless you change the reservation.
Day passes for friends who are not camping
Your camping reservation includes entrance for your party, but friends who drive in for the day need a day pass. Day passes can be reserved up to one month ahead, or up to the arrival date if any remain, and cover up to eight people per vehicle with a limit of two vehicles per arrival date. Weekend and holiday day passes can sell out, and George Observatory visitors also need one. Day-pass cancellations made five or more days ahead are fully refunded.
Tips for landing a weekend site
- Be flexible on the loop. Burr Oak and Red Buckeye cost the same, so search both.
- Try Sunday through Thursday. Weeknights are easier to book than Friday and Saturday.
- Check posted closures first. The park lists closures for November 17–19 and December 15–17, 2026, and a trail race on December 5–6.
- Watch for cancellations. Plans change inside the five-day penalty window, so sites can reappear close to the date.
- Consider the pass. At $7 per adult per day, a $70 Texas State Parks Pass covers two adults' entry after five days.
